A Flip-Flop or a latch is a circuit which contains two stable states and is able to store information in the HOLD state. The device is a bistable multivibrator, and the circuit can be made to change states my the signals from one or more input. Flip Flops are an essential part of Sequential Logic circuits along with the basic building blocks which include inverters, AND gates and OR gates. Flip Flops and latches are used as data storing mediums and can be in either two states High or Low. There are four main types of Flip Flops: RS, Clocked RS, D, and JK Flip Flop. Another feature of Flip Flops is that they can either be synchronous or asynchronous edge triggered.
